【New for 2025】LUPUS 61STT-The one given “Special Task”

The History of Area Trout Rods from YAMAGA Blanks

A few months have passed since YAMAGA Blanks, which mainly produces saltwater rods, released rods for area trout fishing (Trout in fishing ponds).

The area trout series “Lupus Area” is not yet well known, but we have received a lot of good reputation that much more-than-expected from area trout anglers, which makes us feel humbled as a rod company.

This time, we’d like to introduce the Lupus 61STT, which is scheduled to be released at the end of January 2025, but before that, let us tell you a little about how it came to be released and the history of the Lupus for Area.

The Lupus Area is a new series released in the fall of 2024, but YAMAGA Blanks actually began developing rods for area trout more than 10 years ago.

Kyushu island, where YAMAGA Blanks is based, is not a region where area trout fishing is popular, so we fondly recall asking field staff living in Tohoku region for help in creating our first sample.
At that time, the arrival of the horse mackerel fishing booms and our focus on the development of other saltwater rods meant that development of area trout rods was temporarily suspended.

However, several years ago, we heard enthusiastic feedback and heard enthusiasm from area trout anglers speaking at fishing shows around the country, and we felt that we could definitely utilize the rod development know-how we had accumulated through the Blue Current series and other products, so we resumed development rods for area trout.

Then “Lupus Area” series was released in the fall of 2024 finaly.

The lineup includes three retrieve types (focus on winding) and two motion types (focus on action), for a total of five models.

Based on the design capabilities and factory technical skills cultivated in the Blue Current series, each model of the Lupus Area is designed to be optimized for area trout games, and we have created rods that are specialized for the various scenes required in the area.

The Lupus Area aims to be a rod of quality that can be used by those who participate in tournaments, but also one that beginners to area trout can enjoy without stress. In addition, by simplifying the cosmetics, we have placed emphasis on cost performance, and while it is produced in our own factory in Japan, we have set it at a relatively affordable price range.

We had hoped that these five models would allow anglers to enjoy area trout fishing in ponds across the country, but after their release, we received more feedback than we expected from anglers, with people saying things like, “I want a rod like this,” and “I want to do more like this.”

Type: “Special Task”

The five models released in 2024, which consists of “Retrieve Type” and “Motion Type,” each have a different taper design and each rod has its own characteristics so that anglers can find one that suits their style, and they are the standard model for area trout.

We have classified them into two types to help you choose the rod that best suits your needs. There is the versatile 61RM which can be used for everything from general reeling to digital reeling of bottom lures, and the 511RF is a retrieve type which can add a feeding action depending on the angler’s style, making them very versatile.

However, the type of “Special Task,” is very different in nature from the other two types, as the name “Special Task” suggests.

The existing “Retrieve Type” and “Motion Type” have a certain degree of versatility, but the “Special Task” is specialized, and the new model “61STT” that will be added has been developed with a concept that is different from the mainstream.

“Lupus 61STT” – A situation-specific model aimed at large trout

In recent years, ponds in northern Japan have seen an increase in managed fishing areas that are not only popular for catching large numbers of fish, but also for releasing monster trout such as huchen and large rainbow trout.

The 61STT was developed with the concept of using a minnow to target and fish at site fishing for such trophy-sized trout.

Working closely with our own factory in Kumamoto and field staff in the Tohoku area, development progressed surprisingly smoothly.

A big factor in this is that the concept for the 61STT rod has existed for some time, but we also think that this sense of speed is only possible because YAMAGA Blanks has its own factory.

Since rods can be delivered from Kumamoto to the Tohoku area the day after tomorrow, we created proto samples again based on the suggested blank corrections we received on Monday, and then finished and shipped them out over the weekend so that they could be used again. We continued with the development through repeated trial and error.

And the completed 61STT, “ST” stands for Special Task and “T” stands for Trophy. This model is a specialized rod for targeting clever monster in ponds.

To summarize the features of 61STT…

•Easy to use even with minnows that have a strong water resistance
•Even when using heavy wired hooks, it has enough power to penetrate and set hook on the mouth fish.
•The butt has the power to bend firmly and stop the run even when fighting with a trophy-sized trout.

The 61STT is designed to be used with heavy sinking minnows and minnows with long lips, and the belly section has just the right amount of tension to give the desired action to minnows that have a strong water resistance.

In addition, the bat has enough tension and power to penetrate even heavy wired hooks, allowing you to confidently handle fish that run with a lot of torque.

A common feature of the entire Lupus Area series is that they use large diameter guide rings to accommodate a wide range of line settings.

The knot and line go through even when using thick lines, and does not affect casting distance with this 61STT.

The 61STT has been engineered with performance to help you target trophy-sized fish, but we also want you to enjoy the process of not just catching fish, but also hooking the fish that you are aiming at.

One of the fun things about area trout fishing is catching a lot of fish and doing well in tournaments, but we encourage you to experience the joy of “Spot it”, “Aim it” and “Catching It “

This is the best part of sight fishing.

And that was the special task given to “Lupus 61STT.”
