The EARLY510ML is scheduled to be launched in 2025 as a new additional model of EARLY for Boat series.

In recent years, the number of ports and offshore breakwaters that restrict fishing has been increasing here in Japan.

When fishing spots are restricted, it is inevitable that people will turn to offshore fishing, but we think many people still feel that it is a bit of a challenge to try serious jigging or casting games for blue runner.

Against this background, offshore fishing in the bay area and nearby areas is getting popular.

Pleasure boats, rental boats, and recreational fishing boats offering coastal lure games have been clearly increasing in recent years.

The common element to note is that they are “small, maneuverable hulls,” and as rod manufacturers, we thought that the most important thing to consider for use on such boats was “ease of handling.”

For example, if you are on a small boat and trying to use the sharp jerking of a minnow with the tip lowered, depending on the rod length there is a higher risk of hitting the water surface, which may interfere with your intended operation.

 

The proper items in the EARLY for Boat series are the 68ML and 610MH/B, which are of course very easy to handle, but we wanted to develop an even more compact and handy rod for enjoying light casting games in the bay area, such as shooting at structures and holes!
This is why we have added the new model, the EARLY 510ML.

Simply shortening the length of the blank to increase the tension and sharpness will improve the ease of use in terms of casting and action, but this alone may result in the loss of the “bend to land” performance that is the hallmark of YAMAGA blanks.

So, we focused on the “fulcrum of bending”.
Depending on the position of this “fulcrum of bending”, the angler’s feeling of using the rod will change greatly.

We’ve made the blank a little tauter, while placing the fulcrum of the bend near the center of the rod, giving it a so-called “regular taper.” By pursuing the characteristic of “strong and speedy recovery” which is different from “stiffness,” we have created a short-length bay area light casting rod that has high shooting power and accuracy from small motions, bends parabolic to follow, and has the fighting ability to hold the load, allowing you to “Bend to land.”

１．”Casting accuracy”

The 510, which is the lightest power class “ML” in the EARLY for Boat series, has a blank that bends firmly and deeply with less input and load compared to the 68M and 610MH/B in the same series.

 

As mentioned above, the 510ML has a slightly stronger blank tension, but with a “regular taper” that places the fulcrum of the bend near the center of the rod, we focused on how to enhance the rod’s characteristics of strong and quick recovery response.

By making good use of this blank characteristic, you can achieve high shooting power with compact motions and pin-spot accuracy.

２．”Reducing burden on the wrist”

When shooting at pins or holes, you want to cast with one hand for quick and good rhythm.

The 510ML’s short length, light weight and good overall balance means that even when casting repeatedly while using a wrist compactly, the strain on the angler’s wrist is greatly reduced.

The blank is designed to bend with small input while still retaining a recovery force, so the maximum weight of 21g (listed in the specifications) is comfortable, light, and allows you to place the lure in the pin spot with outstanding accuracy.

And when jerking the minnow, the blank has the ability to bend with minimal input, allowing for a sharp action with minimal strain on the wrist.

 

３．“The fun of bending” and “reducing the risk of hook off”

The two characteristics mentioned above give the 510ML the contradictory characteristics of being able to maintain a moderate sense of tension while bending with little input, and having outstanding speed and power in its recovery.

When light boat casting in the bay area, the fight of a Spanish Mackerel or a Small Seabass as it bends and pull them up to the surface is just so much fun.

We believe that a blank that allows you to feel the dynamism of your target and interact with it with confidence will result in fewer missed bites and less chance of hook off, which will inevitably contribute to an improved landing rate.

While increasing the versatility of the blank itself to suit a variety of areas, methods and situations, we have also paid careful attention to the length of rear grip and guide diameter and fine-tuned settings so as not to hinder the angler’s free imagination.

For example, in Niigata Prefecture, where Spanish mackerel fishing is popular in the bay area, a guide setting is used that allows for external loop knots or PR knots using the standard 60-70lb leader, and the rear grip length, which does not interfere with the agility of single-handed casting or the ease of handling when jerking minnows, is a big advantage for anglers.
